What Can Forensic Experts Find? Computer Analysis

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

When using a computer many people think that the files they delete have disappeared indefinitely. However, when there is the need for files to be found, (say, as part of a criminal or disciplinary investigation) a computer forensic analyst knows just how to find them.

The average user cannot see the potential evidence that is kept in computer files and therefore believe that by simply pressing ‘Delete’ the files are then erased. Providing these files have then not been overwritten by regular and sustained use of a computer, they can be relocated in the “non-live” areas on the hard disk. These are called unallocated clusters and can hold gigabytes of deleted data.

A computer forensics examination of the family computer can reveal a wealth of information regarding exactly what is going on in your relationship. People that cheat spend a lot of time and effort on cheating. They think about their lover. They write to them, exchange emails, pics. They research places to meet and go out. All of this data winds up on a hard drive.

Courses within a computer forensics degree generally focus on the technology and legal aspects of the career, requiring the development of a broad base of knowledge. Students are required to gain expertise in the criminal justice and law enforcement system, as well as a core set of skills in both computer science with a focus on hardware and computer security.

It’s also possible to locate secret email accounts, personal ads and secret Myspace pages with an Online infidelity examination. You don’t even need the actual computer or hard drive. The investigator searched the deep web, hidden sections of the Internet to locate secret personal ad memberships and traces of infidelity associated with your spouses email address or name.

If you decide to hire an investigator to look into your spouses Internet life be sure to find one that is experienced in computer forensics and Internet infidelity investigations. You want to have a full investigation into every area of infidelity and while some computer experts are great at hard drive forensics they may not know about Internet investigations and vice versa. Before you hire an investigator do your research and see if the investigator is considered an expert in online infidelity investigations as well as computer or hand held digital forensics.

Importantly, leading computer forensics schools will provide you with an opportunity to gain hands on work experience through internships and work study opportunities within the field. Both private companies as well as government agencies are actively recruiting computer forensics experts to aid in investigations, so demand remains high for new entrants into the field. By earning a well qualified computer forensics degree, you can put yourself in a good position to become a working professional upon graduation. Louis Zhang, Accrcomputerforensics dot com

How To Treat Data And File Failures – Data Recovery

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Data recovery is referred to as a process of retrieving data from a damaged or corrupted file. Data are recovered from hard disk drives, RAID, storage tapes, CDs and DVDs. File recovery is often required when the software is physically damaged or when the file system is logically damaged.

You might encounter the similar error message with your Windows iPod:

“The iPod “iPod name” cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found.”

Cause

Your iPod might fail to sync due to below possible reasons:

• Corrupted ‘iPod Photo Cache’ folder
• iTunes installation files are corrupted or deleted
• Corrupted files in iTunes library
• USB connection issues
• Computer firewall or antivirus problems
• Out-of-date Windows installation
• Disk use is not enabled in iTunes
• iPod disk structure is damaged

• Register application recovery callback. This is one recovery application done to notify the system about the support given to the saving state. The callback function is important in handling errors that can no longer be recovered.

• Recovery in progress. While the system is saving, a notification as to the progress of the process is sent to the system.

• Recovery finished. This is the instance when the system is notified that the recovery software has finished saving the current state.

• Get application recovery callback. This particular feature is used in obtaining the callback function as registered in the recovery callback application.

Solution

You need to apply these methods to solve the existing problem:

• Delete the corrupted ”iPod Photo Cache’ folder. To do so, click Start->Search->All files and folders and type ‘iPod Photo Cache’ and search over the entire hard drive. Delete the folder when located
• Disconnect your iPod from computer and remove ‘iTunes’ and ‘QuickTime’ using ‘Add or Remove programs’ feature in Control Panel. Next, use Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove all their installation files from computer. You should then install latest version of iTunes and QuickTime
• Find and delete the corrupted files from iTunes Libraray, if any
• For correcting USB issues, first try connecting your iPod to the rear port. If this doesn’t help, perform steps like reinstalling or updating USB drivers and using a new USB cord
• Try allowing your iTunes onto your computer’s security/firewall programs
• Update Windows installation with the latest updates and service packs available
• You can also attempt to enable disk use in iTunes
• If the problem continues, iPod disk structure might be damaged. Connect your iPod and run chkdsk. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, reformat the iPod and restore lost data from backup.

If data backup is not in clean state or not available, you can use iPod Data Recovery solutions. These are powerful iPod Recovery utilities that can restore lost data in all logical data loss cases.

Phoenix iPod Recovery is an advanced recovery tool for lost music files, videos, documents, podcasts, graphics and other data from crashed iPod. It is available for both Mac and Windows operating systems. It is compatible with iPod Nano, iPod Classic, iPod Mini and iPod Shuffle
